Maria Vorontsova née Mariya Vladimirovna Putina, also known as Maria Faassen, is a Russian pediatric endocrinologist and the eldest child of the current Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Maria Vorontsova was born on 28th April 1985 in Leningrad now known as Saint Petersburg. She is the eldest daughter of Vladimir Putin and Lyudmila Putina. Vorontsova started her education at a German school in Dresden, East Germany, while her family lived there in the 1980s. When her family moved back to Leningrad in 1991, she studied at Peterschule; a German gymnasium in Saint Petersburg. Due to the violent gang wars involving the Tambov Gang taking control of Saint Petersburg’s energy trade, her father sent Vorontsova and her sister Katerina back to Germany where their legal guardian Stasi Matthias Warnig.
Following that, her family moved to Moscow, and she attended the German School Moscow, a school affiliated with the German Embassy in Moscow attended by children of diplomats. Three years after her graduation Vorontsova started her university studies at Saint Petersburg State University where she studied Biology. In 2011, she graduated from Moscow State University. She was a Ph.D. candidate at the Endocrinology Research Centre in Moscow, headed by Dedov and which runs the charity project Alfa-Endo, for children with endocrine diseases.
From the period of 2013 and 2015, Vorontsova co-authored five academic papers comprising “The status of blood antioxidant system in patients with active acromegaly” and another book about idiopathic stunting in children. Vorontsova is said to be Putin’s counsel in genetic engineering, particularly in the use of CRISPR to develop genetically-engineered babies.

In the summer of 2008, Vorontsova married Dutch businessman Jorrit Faassen in Wassenaar in the Netherlands. They welcomed their son in August 2012. A couple of years later, Dutch residents called for Vorontsova to be expelled from the country after Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down by pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine. Later in 2015, Vorontsova and Faassen were reportedly living in Moscow. In 2022, it was reported that Vorontsova and Faassen were no longer married.
She is currently married to Yevgeny Nagorny, a worker at the Russian oil and gas company Novatek. They also have a son born in April 2017.
On 6 April 2022, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Vorontsova was sanctioned by the United States as she is an adult child of Vladimir Putin. Two days later the United Kingdom and the European Union also imposed sanctions on Vorontsova. On 12 April, Japan also imposed sanctions on her, and finally, in November, she was sanctioned by New Zealand.
