Amanda Faku popularly known by her stage name Ami Faku is a South African singer, performer, and songwriter. She became famous after participating in the season 2 of
The Voice SA.

Ami Faku was born on May 28th, 1993 in eBhayi, eZinyoka, Port Elizabeth. When she was six years old, Faku became passionate about music. She started singing at a house church where her father pastored, and she was influenced by the church, the reggae, and the hip-hop genre. Faku started recording her music in 2012, her producer lived a few blocks away from her house.
In 2017, Faku competed in the famous SA TV talent show, The Voice SA, which was her breakthrough in the music industry. Although she did not win, she got a record deal with “The Vth Season”.
Faku released her debut single titled “Ndikhethe Wena” and later worked with De Mogul SA on the song “Ungowam”. The single “uWrongo” by South African DJ Prince Kaybee featuring Ami Faku, Shimza, and Black Motion was released on January 31st, 2020. The song received a gold certification in the Recording Industry of South Africa with sales of 25 000 units. Fake then collaborated with South African DJ and producer Sun-El Musician on a song titled “Into Ingawe”, which was also certified 3× platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). She also released her single “Inde Lendlela” in August 2020, which later received a platinum certification. On September 26, 2020, she released a single “Imali” featuring Blaq Diamond. The song was also certified platinum by the Recording industry of South Africa.
Ami Faku Career
On September 27, 2020, her debut studio album Imali was released. The album got a gold certification and was produced by Blaq Diamond, Sun-El Musician, 37MPH Eternal Africa, and Wilson. On August 21, Faku released her debut EP titled EA Wave Reimagines. On October 31, 2020, her single with Wichi 1080 “Never Let you go” was released.
In January 2021, Faku released a single “Lala Ngoxolo” that features South African rapper Emtee. In September of the same year, she was featured on “Abalele” by Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa. she also featured with Zimbabwean-born singer Sha Sha on Nomfundo Moh’s single “Phakade Lami” and collaborated on African Lullabies Part 1 compilation album by Platoon.
Later, she made another collaboration with Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa on the single “Asibe Happy”.

In 2020, Faku won the 26th SAMA Female Artist of the Year and was also nominated as the Newcomer of the Year and the Best Afro-Pop Album
Also in 2020, she was nominated twice at the African Muzik Magazine Awards for Best Newcomer and the Best Female Southern Africa
She was named the most streamed female artist in South Africa by Deezer in 2020.
