Akin Lewis is an award-winning Nigerian actor, producer, and director. His full name is Akintola Akin Lewis, he is a well-known veteran actor who has been in the industry for over 46 years.
He was born on April 7th, 1957 in Ibadan, Oyo State, the western part of Nigeria. His parents were senior civil servants. He is his parent’s only son. He was born in Ibadan but raised in Lagos and Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Akin had his primary and secondary school education in Lagos State, Nigeria. He went to the University of Ife, presently known as Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Osun State to complete his tertiary education, it was there he obtained his undergraduate degree.
Akin Lewis was awarded a scholarship to Bulgaria, Europe for his Master’s degree in Dramatic Arts at the University in Sophia.

The veteran actor started acting at an early age, age 12. His father was supportive and took him to auditions. His passion for acting made him joined a drama group in secondary school. After he finished secondary school, in 1973, he decided to join a drama group headed by a well-known Nigerian writer and dramatist, Professor Bode Sowande. He revealed that this opened his eyes.
Before he became popular, he was the Senior Executive Director of a corporate institution which he has worked for 20 years before attaining that position. He has worked in various corporate institutions such as NTA, Globacom, and the former Owena Bank. Akin Lewis is presently the Rector of a film Institute, Graig-Phillips College of Technology located at Shonibare Estate, Maryland, Lagos.
In 1973, the veteran actor wanted to go into acting full-time but his dad didn’t support him because he believed acting was not ideal for a graduate. However, Akin’s mother gave him maximum support and after a while, his father accepted his career choice.
The movie that brought him to stardom is a comedy home video “Why Worry (The Adventures of S.K Adio the Barber)” it was a very popular movie in the 1980s and was aired on NTA Ibadan in 1980. Akin was also featured in Tade Ogidan movie titled “Madam Dearest” it was in 2005 and the feature earned him a spot in the hall of fame.
Akin Lewis has been in the movie industry for over 40 years. He has had a successful career over the years in which he has produced, featured and directed various Nollywood films. He has featured in Heroes, Zeroes, Tinsel and many more. He has acted alongside veteran actor Jide Kosoko and other big stars in the Nollywood industry.
