EARLY LIFE
Growing Up.
Actor Bumbo Manuel was born on October 30th, 1958 in Lagos. The actor was raised and grew up in the same state but at a point in his life, he lived with his brother in Ibadan, Oyo State. The actor described that he was a wild child growing up so his decision to go to the university at all was a good enough one for his parents. He also described his father in an interview as a liberal man.
Education.
After the successful completion of the actor’s basic and secondary school education which he had in the then Nigeria Western region, he proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt where he earned a degree in Theater Arts, graduating with honors.
How Manuel’s Career Started.
Bimbo Manuel was not passionate about acting at first, he was just interested in the arts. Nonetheless, the subject he had the best grades in was science subjects. He never fathomed that he would end up an actor. Back then his choice of career was to be a DJ because he loved music. He would go to nightclubs, put parties together, so his friends suggested he should work for a radio station. He went to OGBC (Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation) for an audition and passed.
Acting came as a chance for him. Later he went to the University of Port Harcourt to study theatre arts with Ola Rotimi. For the first three months, he was there, he did not quite grasp what was being taught there.
His first performance was The gods are not to blame. From there he moved to the set of Hopes of the living dead. He was among the second troupe ever to play the Hopes of the living dead after the world premiere. Daniel Wilson, Hilda Dokubo, and Gogo were all part of his crew then.
