Alia Bhatt was born on 15th March 1993 to Indian film director Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan. Her father has Gujarati ancestry and her mother is of Kashmiri Pandit and British German ancestry. Bhatt has an older sister, Shaheen, and two half-siblings, Pooja and Rahul Bhatt. She is cousins to actor Emraan Hashmi and director Mohit Suri, and producer Mukesh Bhatt is her uncle.
She attended the Jamnabai Narsee School but dropped out to pursue a career in acting. She holds British citizenship.
Career
Bhatt’s first acting role was in 1999 in her father’s production venture Sangharsh when she was only 5 years old. Her first leading role was in 2012 with Karan Johar’s teen film Student of the Year. In 2014, She featured in Imtiaz Ali’s road film Highway, she also starred in the romantic films 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Following that, she starred in several other high-grossing movies.
In 2019, Bhatt launched her production company, Eternal Sunshine Productions. that year, she was cast alongside Ranveer Singh in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, a musical inspired by the life of the street rappers Divine and Naezy. The film premiered at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. In 2022, Bhatt had a brief role in the epic film RRR. The film was the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all time. She also starred opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva.
Bhatt is set to be cast in her first Hollywood film alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in the Netflix spy film Heart of Stone.
