Growing up
Olamilekan Agbeleshe was born on 8 November 1993. He was raised in Lagos. However, his parents are natives of Baduwen, Odeda, Ogun State. Laycon is an individual from humble beginnings. From the early demise of his father, who had been diagnosed with sickle anaemia since childbirth, to the lack of financial ability needed to push his musical career forward. Laycon had a difficult childhood.
Education
Laycon had his Primary and Secondary school education in Lagos State. Before graduating with a second class upper degree in Philosophy from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Most sources claim that Laycon was the best graduating student in the 2015/2016 graduating set but, Laycon was not named as the best graduating student by the University itself. Therefore, that claim is questioned. However, Laycon’s versatility with words in his music and his display of physical and emotional intelligence in the big brother house, which endeared many to him, points to the fact that he has a brilliant mind.
How Laycon’s Career Started
Although, there have been videos on the mainstream media dated as far back as 2013 showing Laycon in three-quarter jeans and slippers, rapping at the Mr. and Mrs. UNILAG school event. Laycon started songwriting and rap at a tender age. In 2014, he was one of the ten artists that performed at the Coke Studio University of Lagos event. He also finished as one of the top ten finalists in the MTV Base LSB Challenge.
Laycon was not signed to a record label until 2019 when he was signed to Fierce Nation Entertainment Limited. He released a track titled “Fierce” with star acts like Chinko Ekun and Reminisce. He also worked on two different extended playlists, “Any Given Monday I & II” Before releasing another EP “Who is Laycon” in 2020.
